Organisation Overview

Sunderland Software City (SSC) has the objective of encouraging economic development through the provision of support to North East based software companies.

By supporting technology companies to start and grow the North East can build on its reputation as a home to innovation and provide career opportunities for today’s and tomorrow’s generations.

SSC also leads one of three regional digital catapult centres known as Digital Catapult North East Tees Valley. Digital Catapult NETV has its headquarters at the Software Centre in Sunderland alongside managing the Immersive Lab in Gateshead’s PROTO: the Emerging Technology Centre. Its focus is on immersive technologies, data and AI, digital manufacturing and the creative and cultural industries.

 

Role Overview

Engaging industry is key to the job we do, this is how we find out about the needs and requirements of the businesses we work with. Equally we need to engage the communities in which we operate, whether these are communities of interest or geographic communities.

Working alongside the Head of Communications and PR & Marketing Specialist, this role will support the whole organisation by running engagement activity with both industry and the communities in which we work. Activity will include: managing social media, content creation, community liaison and digital events management.

This role will require maintaining close relationships with a wide range of technology SMEs and partners. SSC also works with a wide range of stakeholders including local and national government, further and higher education and training providers.

As part of the small SSC team you will have opportunities to get involved in wider activity and we see this role as a fantastic development opportunity for the right candidate.

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

Communications

  • Developing and promoting social media and marketing campaigns (alongside the Head of Communications and Marketing & PR Specialist);
  • Updating and maintaining SSC website;
  • Social media and website monitoring, monthly reporting to Head of Comms;
  • Researching technology sector to help inform marketing communications

Event Management and Admin

  • Planning and delivering events;
  • Representing SSC at external events;
  • Assisting in informing and supporting the requirements of SMEs involved in SSC events
  • Proactive engagement of regional software entrepreneurs and businesses to involve them in event activities

 

Key Skills/ Qualifications

Essential:

  • Proven experience in managing a variety of social media channels
  • Experience in event management
  • Strong written content creation skills
  • A strong understanding of social media tools and web analytics
  • Ability to build new contacts
  • Excellent organisational and presentation skills
  • Interest in technology and digital skills

Desirable:

  • Experience of multimedia content creation (e.g. video, podcasts, design) using different platforms (Twitter, Instagram, TikTok etc) to create engaging audio visual content
  • Experience of email marketing
  • Awareness of North East based technology companies
  • Interest in working with young people and people from under-represented groups
